"Zum Geiss" - Bavarian World of Beers - A Culinary Experience
Bavaria‘s 500 year old beer purity law is the world‘s oldest existing nutrition law.
It makes sure that beer, Bavaria‘s favorite drink, is made from 4 ingredients only: hops, malt, yeast and water.
Let an expert beer sommelier introduce you to the local varieties (with seasonal focus ) in the cozy setting of Straubings oldest tavern “Zum Geiss” (1462).
Surprise your taste buds while you sip and savor beers paired with cheese, local sausage (Weisswurst), mustard or Bavarian bread.
The Oldest Tavern in Straubing
Straubing’s tavern “Zum Geiss” is actually older than the Bavarian purity law: the oldest historic tavern in Straubing was first mentioned in 1462. Today a number of special beers are offered there. Michaela Stöberl, host and beer sommelier at “Zum Geiss”, is happy to make guests’ wishes come true with her innovative creativity and know-how of traditional brewing. After all the love for beer is more than just a cliché in Bavaria. Guests can learn a lot about the nuances of the liquid gold, the brewing process, and local specialties at a beer tasting at the cosy tavern.
